What is redemptive theology?
Sin = falling short
my definiton = greed, hate, rebellion, immorality and
exploiting others eg sexual abuse
The Saviour
God loved the world so much
Jesus died that we might live
Salvation
deliverance
the call to repent and believe
I found repenting of my sins brought freedom.
How is redemptive theology relevant to us as survivors of sex crimes ( sexual abuse) against us?
lets look at parables, words of encouragement and Jesus proclamation
In the parable of the Good Samaritian
an innocent man was beaten up and left wounded
The Good Samaritian stoped
cleaned his wounds
bound up his wounds
took him to a safe place to recover
In Psalm 23 we read
"He restores my soul"
The powerfull love of God casts our fear ( and trauma)
Jesus is the great shame remover.
we are accepted in Him
Jesus proclaimed
the promise in Isaiah 61
was fulfilled in Him.
He is announcing
The Spirit of the Lord is upon Him
- to preach Good news to the poor possably dignity see Barkley's commentary)
- to heal the broken hearted
- to set the captives free."
Evangelical and Orthodox Christians and most protestants
- believe in an all knowing , all powerfull God
- The God who knows truth and has revealed truth in His word, The Bible.
- The God revealed Himself in nature
- The God who created us
- God who sent His Son to save us from our sin. ( greed, hate, selfishness, rebellion, immorality and exploitating others)
- God who restores lives
Jesus Christ is the shame remover.
but we are the survivors.
Now if I'm walking along a footpath and someone in front of me drops a $10 note it is not mine. I call out. I run up to the pedestrian in front of me and say
" here is your $10 note you droped" as I give it to it's rightfull owner.
Likewise, I feel the Lord gave me a profound insight,
that any guilt or shame dumped on me is not mine
the guilt and shame of the sex crime committed against me does not belong to me but the abuser.
I figuritively handed it back.
I imagined I handed it back.
As Christian survivors we should be and can be shame free.
